There was a time that Handy would work for other people. However, we had a dream of being our own bosses someday. Now that we have made it, we feel that it is only right to share some of the steps that we took to achieve success. Remember, not all of these will apply to every situation. So, take what we say with a grain of salt. If something does not apply to your current business model then, by all means leave it out. Find a Business Idea

Of all the steps, this is the one that most people have the hardest time doing. The problem is that they don’t think that they have a good idea. The other reason is they think that it has already been done. There are many companies that are in business today that were a “duplicate” of another business idea. The fact is, they came along and did it better than the other companies. Think of Netflix. When they first started, they were a movie rental company. There were already a ton of places renting movies. Well, they added a little twist to the market and essentially shut down all the video rental companies across the country. They are now challenging Hollywood for movie production.

Top Paying Clients

In order to make it, you are going to have to find people that are willing to pay top dollar for a superior service. One place that they often turn to is Craigslist. Yeah…that Craigslist. There are many freelance workers on there and the customers are looking for them to do work for them. The thing is, they are terrible workers. If you go on there and offer a superior product, you will all of a sudden start getting the majority of the business. When you are looking for potential clients, make sure that when you send them a correspondence that you make sure it is tailor fit to them. If it sounds generic, they probably will not give you a second look or thought.

Perfect Pitch

When you are pitching the client on the work that you can do, make sure that it is as detailed as it can possibly be. If you need to, make sure that you write your stuff down and go over everything. This may mean that you need to write a script to make sure that you cover all the bases. Make sure that you know your script well enough that you don’t sound like you are just reading to them. They can tell if you are reading and they will not be impressed.

Conclusion

Handy knows that working for yourself is the dream of many people. Seriously, who wants to work for someone else making them loads of money and getting very little compensation in return? The answer is no one. So, make sure that you have all your ducks in a row before contacting the client and remember to always be closing.
